Steve's sexual harassment 'bot

Well, I'd be lying if I said I didn't regret not going to burning man now, but hopefully I'll make it next year. After all, since I'm now in the process of making servo driver circuits, and the targeting algorithm works reasonably well, soon you will all fall into the crosshairs of my semi-autonomous hunter robot ( Read more... )

Wouldn't that involve the robot giving people inadvertent enemas?
You may want to set the "grab" target somewhat left of center...

i think i'm going to make a harassment chatbot just for you. then you would have to show up on aim from time to time.

So, I've been thinking about how to do gender-ID, and it seems to me that it's more or less impossible optically. So, either it's gender inspecific and just finds ass and slaps it, or it'll need some other kind of ID system. Voice for example. Also, the logistics of actually running the robot on the playa needs to be worked out. Letting it run loose is complicated, because we need to stay with it (or we'll never see it again) and there's bike and foot traffic to stay out of the way of.

Also, dustproofing. Whatever we do has to function when completely and utterly coated in a thin sheen of playa, because it's everywhere.

Hmm, I hadn't even thought about the "dustproofing" issue...I'm still hoping to make something that can reliably target a moving object and hit that target, which looks like it may take some time in a shop (or something like it) to create. So, basically, for the moment I'm becoming comfortable with using servos to make a robot that can position an arm where it wants it, and then I plan to revisit the algorithm that tells it where to move.

I'm not sure.....at some point I need to interrogate you further about the camp environs, because it will likely make a big difference to the "location" control necessary....

yeah, targeting is a difficult problem, especially depth perception. it might be fun to talk about it next time you're in town over a drink and a game of pool or something.

Personally, I think the robot should offer equal-opportunity harrassment... it's about time some of the males around here had their asses unexpectedly groped... ;)
