Loved this chapter as usual. The beginning with River and Jayne, how he calms her by stroking her scars and she sees into his heart was beautiful and poignant. (but I really think they should get to the sexin' part...)

River's attempted girl talk with Inara was hilarious, as was Jayne and Mal's husband/wife act. Jayne's musings about trying not to think about why exactly it worked so well was especially giggle inducing.

Jayne's baby sis has risen high in the world and become just as dangerous as her big brother although in a completely different way.

Have no fear -- our beloved couple is headed toward the moment when they fall in bed with each other. As you might have noticed, they've become more possessive of each other, so it shouldn't be too long now...

Poor Jayne. Saddled with a wife like Mal. No wonder he's so anti-marriage. ;D

From the beginning with River only vaguely understanding the depth of the look Jayne was giving her to all the confusion of the conversation with Inara.

Mal seriously loves his dresses. Seriously loves them. lol

And the plot thickens!

I'm glad you liked this chapter! And River being clueless about love never gets old for me. But just because she doesn't realize that she's madly in love doesn't mean she isn't. Just wait for Jayne's homecoming! :)

Although, you would think that with a girlfriend like Inara that Mal would actually have developed some sort of fashion sense. Alas, he'll probably be buried with that ugly dress.

Is it hopelessly romantic of me to take it as a good sign that Jayne has been thinking about marriage (even if he's only gotten as far as thinking about all the ways in which Mal would be a terrible wife to be stuck with and would never win the approval of his lethal mama Vera)? :)

And speaking of marriage, how much do we love Lady Niska's no-muss-no-fuss alternative to divorce (and all those tedious legal hassles over property settlements), instead going straight for the unfortunate and completely accidental poisoning of the unwanted evil spouse with arsenic-laced lipstick? I'm definitely seeing and enjoying the family resemblance.

Hey, if you're a hopeless romantic than so am I - after all, Jayne and River are going to use a pretty flimsy excuse to get married after a very brief period where they both insist that they don't want to get married.

Lady Niska is very practical. She takes after her big brother and her mother in that way. ;)

Will you think less of me if I admit that when I saw this update I squealed in delight? I may have clapped. It's even possible I did the Snoopy dance, but there were no witnesses so there's no proving it, now is there

I would not think less of you if that were your reaction. In fact, hearing your reaction inspired my own victory dance of which there were no witnesses. ;)

I'm glad you enjoyed this chapter - it was a lot of fun, especially because there were moments like Simon not being where he's supposed to be and Jayne and River making huge declarations of twu luv without the word "love" coming into it.

I am indeed aiming for suspense. I have no excuse except that I am a terrible person and it's all my parent's fault for raising me wrong. ;) Seriously though, I am going to try to having the next chapter out in the next couple of weeks. I already have most of it plotted out and plan to start writing it tomorrow after work. Keep your fingers crossed that the writing goes well!

loved how close jayne and river are - him rubbing her scars - so sweet

inara and river's girl chat was funny

the idea of river plucking simon's greys while he is asleep - so funny and definatly something I can see her doing

also liked how she blames simon for not being there to save her from having to answer inara

I love River and Simon, especially when they have sibling moments like these. Although, one of these days, Simon is going to wake up bald. ;D
