Turning 18

My daughter turned 18 yesterday. And it was a day of disappointment for her on a few levels. She is mad at society for making us all have pre-conceived notions about what happens at certain markers in one's life. She didn't get a car. First, birthdays are overrated. Thanks to society, we set up images in our mind of how we think they should be. But unfortunately, knowing and understanding that doesn’t make it hurt any less when real life doesn’t live up to our expectations. And that goes for things other than birthdays as well. It’s like we have this idea of What Life Should Be, but our idea turns out to be just a fairy tale ( ... )
