there's no way for either of us to be sure that we're both ready to do this. .... he doesn't even know that i'm just as unsure as he is, i don't even know if he remembers telling me he's not sure.

with what you're talking about there's no real way to know if you're ready or not then to just do it. you may be ready, but you may not be. if you're not, the consequences will be grave.
