we had to watch this stupid video in calculus today...it was the standard deviants. i hate those videos so much! they waste my time by showing things that have no relevance to the task at hand in the name of "entertainment." maybe if they just explained how to do the problem, the video would be much shorter and i could find my own entertainment ( Read more... )

I think I'd have answered the beef question the same way you did. It's a very poorly constructed question.

I've never seen any videos at all in calculus. Or in any of my math classes. Sounds like I'm none the poorer for it.

Colleges are continuing to call me too, encouraging me to apply. Isn't it, uh, February? Aren't all the application deadlines over already? My applications are all done. Finished. It's in someone else's hands now.

run away if someone ever tries to show you a standard deviant video!

it seems that the colleges that are the worst possible matches for me are the ones that call (besides the ones i actually applied to) ...i pick up the phone and hear "hello, i'm from the men's bagpipe-playing college..." well, it's not that bad, but still i wish they'd just leave me alone...

I got called by a Baptist college of some sort. I didn't bother to explain that I'm a Jewish atheist; I rarely discuss theology with telemarketers. Though sometimes I feel like telling them to go to hell, which may or may not count.

I'll certainly take your advice and run if someone comes at me with a deviant video, standard or otherwise.

How did you put a link in your livejournal entry for people to see your answer, the other answer, and why? It shows up as a link, but when you go to read the comments page, the link is gone and it's normal text.. How does that work?

I'm glad to see that someone else forces The Standard Deviants upon their students. We had to suffer through that last year, but we don't this year since we're in BC and we know everything (yeah, right...). Luckily, we get to watch physics videos with poor puns such as this one, about Faraday's persistence in trying to liquefy (condense) gases: "Luckily, he did not lose his British cool." It's stuff like this which makes me want to make a function in our robot's program to Turn Our Magnificent Servo: tomServo().

I haven't heard from national merit yet!?!?!?!! Arrgh. Seriously, if I don't get it, my week will officially hit the new lowest low of all time and my life will be pointless. And I don't know if I've been accepted to FSU, which is *the only* place I applied. Oh god. I'm going to ruin my life. I suck. I SUCKKKKK!

I think that its brilliant you have been chosen!!! Why on God's Green Earth would there be a video of Calculus!?! I thought being an adult was torture enough!!! I like the comment about eye stabbing & beating the head with the book LOL...I think I would have stood up & shrieked!!!

P.S....my guess ur teacher has been in a rut for a long time academically LOL.

thanks. saying my math teacher is in a rut is an understatement, but i guess i can't really talk because i'm pretty sure i wouldn't be a good calculus teacher...
