Decided to go out today despite the weather. Did a three mile road course. At least a mile of the course is uphill. Went the entire distance without walking ( Read more... )

Overall it is better. I highly recommend at this point in your running that you not worry about speed, just build the base miles.

Question, are you going to go for distance more or concentrate on 5K-10K distances?

The plan for now is to build up distance. pleasuregelf is going to run a half-marathon in March and I am aspiring to keep up with her. We live far apart so I send her emails and journal entries about my progress.

Even better! If y'all aren't careful, you'll get addicted to running. Worse things could happen:-D

Midfoot isn't a bad thing either. What you don't want is a toe strike. That'll tear up your shins.

I tend to hit toes first if I'm not paying attention. This is especially bad, not to mention a waste of energy, on the downhills.

good advice. ust bought new shoes, my knees where bothering me, apparently I pronate while running, but not walking. I've always been weird. Did half a mile today just to break in new shoes a bit and it felt soooo much better, no burning at all!

I thought I pronated running but not walking, but it turns out less that I pronate than that my ankles weren't stable. I go with Aesics GT21-30 or GT21-40. Good stability shoes. They're incredibly comfy for me both running and walking. Where did you go for gait analysis?

I went to a store called "run for your life", the guy there was very nice. I tried on the Aesics, but ended up with New Balance, they seemed to fit my feet better. I have a very narrow foot and most shoes slide a bit at the heel.

Good enough! Best choice, go with the shoe that fits. I use New Balance on for trail running.
