Upon measuring I have determined that my preferred necklace length is 16". I like it short enough so that if I'm wearing a v-neck or scoop-neck shirt the necklace is sort of framed by the shirt.
I think that both 16" and 18" are considered to be short. I'm mostly concerned with figuring out exactly how off-base my ideas of length are -- judging by most of the necklace sizing charts I've seen, a 16" necklace fits me more like an 18" necklace is meant to fit. I really don't think I'm particularly petite, so this confuses me.

I know what you mean. But which length does that for you -- 16" or 18"? (and yes, I realize most people probably do not know how long their necklaces are. I sure didn't until now!).
I usually wear pendants, around 18", when I wear regular necklaces, I prefer 16", but I don't like anything tight on my neck, I very rarely wear a turtleneck, because I don't like feeling choked.
