I want to post this EVERYWHERE. I want to put it in my journal, all my community journals, and hell, even join some more communities just to get this out. While I realize people post forwards all the time, written by questionable sources, all just from a bunch of talking heads (or typing fingers), this one is DIFFERENT. Just found your LJ randomly via the guns community, and I have to say that the above is a very powerful statement about the "necessary evil" of war. No one likes it, but sometimes it's just gotta be done.

Hope you don't mind me cutting and pasting this into my own LJ to share with my friends.

No worries. Please, please feel free to re-post it. It was written quite a while ago, but still, the more people that get a chance to see it, the better (in my opinion).

Don't know if you've been seeing the "guns" community recently, but I've just been fully banned from there. I had the moral fortitude to stand up against a new member ("jerkbeast") who has declared himself to be a neo-Nazi. I thought it was inappropriate to allow such a person into the community, and the moderator disagreed. As such, I've been banned and several people have left the community. There had been healthy discussion up until all my posts were deleted.

Well, whatever. Thanks for reading (and liking) Jon's letter. He really is the closest thing I have to a brother...he's currently stationed in Frankfurt, Germany. Glad you liked...

Yeah, I just found that post (announcing your ban) now, and has been following the discussion over the past few days.

Though my opinion differs from yours on the matter (I'm more middle of the road if you will), I too agree that there was a very healthy discussion going and stomping it out isn't the greatest idea.

Having been a moderator of a very popular game server's message board in the past, I've never minded when things got off topic, unless it was a very serious important topic to begin with that was getting belittled, or if things degenerated into a flame war; both things being very non-productive if you will.

As such, I feel that your ban wasn't really appropriate. For what it's worth, I back you on taking a stand for your beliefs, starting a very mature dialogue about it, and sticking to your guns even when the moderator smoked you out.

Anyway, just thought you'd appreciate a few direct words of support.

Cheer's for that. The "discussion" that had been going on was a healthy one, and certainly necessary, until the moderator stepped in. As I said, all my posts were deleted, so take what you see with a grain of salt. I was VERY pronounced in saying that I did not want to start a flame war - I wanted to foster discussion. And although I'm typically middle-of-the-road (in most cases), Nazism and neo-Nazis are something I will rise up against and do my best to put the smack down against (so to speak). One thing I found really interesting was how many people were quick to apologise for him - quite shocking, really. This is a guy who said, directly, Guten tag my follower! We must seak out more Nazis in kent lol there are very few there are just skin heads and KKK clans men lol. WE ARE NAZIS NOT THE KKK! If you wish to join in on the fight for the supream race then please send me the ring master a E mail. A person like that, in my opinion, shouldn't be tolerated at all, regardless of age ( ... )
