discovered Joe/Billy handholding in widescreen HCL

I posted an entry to this effect in my own LJ but thought folks might find this interesting. Up until recently, I didn't have a widescreen version of HCL in AVI format. Now I do, and I discovered something to the far left of the screen in the interview scene where Joe sarcastically tells Tiffany his and Billy's white-trash-like brawling "makes our ( Read more... )

What an awesome icon! So you knew about this? I feel so dumb! I've watched HCL so many times and never noticed this before, because I was always watching some fullscreen version of it, either on my DVD player or (most often) an old fullscreen AVI on my Mac or PC.

It just makes me love Joe more, though -- that he can be that off-handedly sweet to Billy at the same time he's running off a rock journalist. :-) Of course, it's also kind of sweetly sad, given what we know is coming. :-/

It could be possessive, too...

I feel a cross between *sigh* and *Guh* about this.

Clearly I'll have to remedy this with some fic...

Yeah, I think people were talking about it a few years ago. It's funny how fandom knowledge goes in waves like that, huh? Excitement, then it dies down, and it gets rediscovered. Very cool though!

I wonder what else doesn't show up in the full-screen version... :-)

And I definitely read the hand-holding as possessive. Oh Joe! Oh BOYS!

So was this scripted? I kind of doubt it... it plays like something ad libbed by Hugh and Callum.

this has always been my assumption. *might have a thing about casual absence of personal space & touching*

Yeah, I don't know this for a fact in any way -- but I get the sense that Hugh doesn't keep that American (why would he? being Canadian and all) 3 feet of empty space around him -- at least not with his friends and loved ones. And that he's naturally very physical and affectionate. *sigh*

Yay! Someone else who didn't know about it, either! I feel less clueless now. *g* It's so lovely!

I love all the business in this scene with Joe's incredibly possessive body language. Look again at the way he moves the drinks around. It's not even just the bigger actions, but pretty much every motion he makes. He can barely keep his hands off.

OMG I love this bit. I'd noticed it, but hadn't properly squeed over it before.

I just think it's so telling -- Billy tolerates the caress, but he doesn't return it. You know, like everything else.

Oh boys. *sigh*

Squee away! I'm still squeeing happily! *g*

Yes, that's the subtly heartbreaking aspect of it. It's hot because Joe is so affectionate and possessive... and yet it's got that core of angst glimmering beneath the surface in Billy's physical aloofness.
