i attribute my absolute worship of the midcentury pracitcal arts and design to two things: the frank lloyd wright price tower was practically right outside my bedroom window for me to see every night of my young formative years... and my grandparents' wood shop was filled to the brim with all manner of 30's - 60's ephemera, perfectly preserved.  ( Read more... )

isn't it FANTASTIC??!! i am completely smitten with the moss lamp with the revolving lady figure on it. that could be the centerpiece of a whole room!!

You know my mum used to be something of a Mod, they were pretty great! I can't imagine what they were like in SoCal though? (The UK guys used to wear these heavy coats that would be pretty impossible in the heat down there!)

yeah, mod is so fantastic - particularly the men's fashions. :) i'll swoon over a smart mod boy any day of the week! i guess that the details of mod dress are dictated a little by climate - of course, in the UK, heavy coats would be very appropriate. i think the soCal mod scene, at least in its revival, is more akin to the beach boys and lots of scooter girls in mini dresses. i know there is a big scene down there! :) and at night it gets cool in southern california - maybe then the coats come out! :) that's awesome that your mum was mod... :)
