Can anyone think of a book or essay or topic that may hold some interest for inner city 9th graders? They don't seem to like dave eggers, steve martin, p.j. orourke, donald miller, a book called "Stiff: the curious lives of human cadavers," Townes van Zandt songs, science, or Shakespeare. I would say, "I know how God feels." These kids in my classes don't want to listen to me one bit. They yell, interupt, refuse to participate, and don't follow instuction. They are mean, even.

Earlier, just before I was about to be responsible and go to bed, I made the mistake of watching Hannity & Colmes. There was a story about a child rapist in Vermont. Over a four year period, he repeatedly raped a seven year old girl. He was facing life in prison, but the judge in the case sentenced him to 60 days in jail.
