I have a Kindle now.

It's a strange little device that looks a little too close to the Star Trek® future we all imagined as children (No, really!). I mean, it's going to depend on what you're reading. Scanned .pdf files of books are probably just not readable. Modern, scalable files are much better. The note-taking is functional. You can highlight texts and leave notes and they all get compiled into a text document that you can access on the Kindle or transfer onto your computer. If I am going to read a paper that is crucial for my research, though, I am going to print it out so I can actually write on it.

I don't know, I am still transitioning, so ask me again in a few weeks ;)
