Today is Oprah’s last show.

I saw something on Facebook which ticked me off: Oprah disparagement.  Something about how she propagated “gullibility” and thus unfairly made all of her money. It sort of ticked me off.  Here’s what I nearly posted:

AOTD: I sincerely apologize Dearest Jeffy, but... I am not a fan of Goddess Oprah. For a variety of reasons. She may smite me down w/ her mighty meaty forearms, but I am a bigger fan of Ellen and the late, great Tyra...

AotD: I like poking fun at the ridiculousness that comes from her show and I HATE Dr. Phil, but I'm ambivalent towards her and can also understand the appeal.

I'm not her biggest fan. If she were on television along side Johnny Mnemonic, I would watch Johnny. But I don't dislike her; indeed, I respect her. She has done well for herself, she's a pretty shrewd cookie and, I think, a good human.

AOTD: In my opinion she sells the easy-answer, "self-help" industry (which is helpful nor for the self-reliant) to people who are too lazy (including intellectually) to do much of anything without having someone tell them they need to do it, how to do it, etc. She is better than religion, but basically she's there to tell her audience how and what to think because they are can't be bothered to figure it out on their own.

Do I think she's done something wrong? No, her product is not for me and something I look down on from my lofty, and probably undeserved, perch, so I just ignore it. When I can. If people like her and her product, that's fine with me. There's lots of things I consume, do, enjoy that they don't either.

I would never, ever fail to return one of her texts, nor respond undiplomatically, if by accident, to her. And I am trying to expand that to everyone I know. But it's tough. :-)

Actually, while not a fan, I do admire her for what she said to Frey you mention in your post. Nice she apologized for going overboard and realizing it was about her ego, not his boneheaded mistake. Would be nice if everyone could be that understanding with others.....
