A kiss is like...
when you like someone seriously. It's something you should probably only do when you're also sure the other person likes you seriously... the same as a hug, but even more so. It's not something people should do lightly. For instance, if there's even the slightest chance that it'll bother you if they end up having bad breath, you shouldn't even bother.

Although now that I think about it, it seems that in most of the living world, a kiss is just a simple greeting. In a place like this, I suppose it wouldn't really have any connotations in particular.
