A hundred years before the Unification War, the Alliance had a pogrom:
Capture all werewolves. Put them in cages. Experiment.
Of course, Ben Lockwood was caught up in that. Intimately involved, as it were.
But Ben Lockwood has never been one to take such a thing lying down. When they broke into his apartment and killed his wife of four hundred years with no warning whatsoever...
Well. The gloves kind of come off after something like that. And you do not want to tangle with someone who has 400 years of combat experience, even if he is still on a cane. Because all you will do is underestimate him, and then be surprised when he hands your ass to you."
- During the Werewolf Pogrom, Janni is killed in a raid.
- Ben is methodically sharpening a knife.
- Guriel is sitting on the roof, stargazing and looking for guidance.
- Ben is shattered, and trying without success to pray.
- Their transport is raided by the Alliance.
- Ben and Guriel break into an Alliance installation to try and free Megan and other werewolves. It fails, and
- Ben is caged, snarling at his captor. And then they escape.
- They make it to Alex's safehouse.
- Ben wonders if he's a good person or not.
- The Alliance is trying to draw Ben out.
- Between murderer and martyr, neither is a very shiny option. To Guri's horror, Ben chooses the former. But at least it makes him realize that murder won't bring Janni back to them.
Ben is wolfed, wrapped around Janni's penguin.
- Guriel finally meets this Siobhan Ben's been talking about.
- And then meets the strange, bereaved boy she's taken in.
- Siobhan cares for a dying cat.
- More awkward trying to connect with Lester.
