Democracy is a slow form of government if you really think about it. But do you want a tyranny because they just happen to move faster?
I think more parties and more opinions will slow things down, but it'll turn more people on to participate and follow events.
The Filibuster simply needs to go away or be scaled back. If a group is in power then they call the shots, if people have a problem with it, they need to vote people out. It could lead to problems, but I think it will drive people to the polls ultimately.
But if you have multiple parties (or better yet independent representatives) then you might have an environment where people will be in the mood to compromise more and not hold to their core ideologies as much.
I don't think limiting opinion or voices is what our government is all about.
