A little rant on the word HATE! (x-posted on alternatives_av)

I've often wondered about the word hate. I've never liked it. Hate leads to war and war leads to death. Hate is a very strong word. Because of the weight that this simple four letter word carries I have decided not to use this word when referring to any other human being or animal ever again. From now on if I dislike someone I will not say I hate

My mother always used to warn me about using the word "hate" when I was little. Every time I used it, she'd ask me if I really meant what I said. "Hate is a very strong word!" was a mom-phrase that was burned into my brain until I was about 8 or 9.

Then again, my mom also wouldn't let me use words like "stupid", "crazy", or "dumb" because they were (in another mom-phrase), "empty adjectives."

Useful thing to teach a little kid, I think. Now her adult daughter throws the word "hate" around like nobody's business and has a vocabulary consisting mostly of empty adjectives, but whatever.

I think getting rid of the word hate for now is fine. I rather enjoy the other empty adjuctives. It is not wrong to say someone is dumb if they are dumb. I'm rather crazy so I use that word a lot.

Yes, lets keep those other ones. They are not as mean as the word hate. You can't joke hate someone but you can call someone stupid and just be joking.
