Actually, as I understand it from my vague memories of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, non-consensual digital penetration is a form of rape according to the law.
Yes, legally it is rape. I was more pointing out that it should not be seen as more an invasion of privacy. And if it is medically justified, then ok if similar examinations of unconscious people would be ok. That the problem is as much one about doing anything to someone who can't give consent.
In fairness, the patient was in for a recto-vaginal fistula. The consultant was like "have you ever done a pv? Do a pv/pr while I go scrub" And then came back and was very much "you're doing it wrong! More vigour!" The consultant was very vigorous in showing us how to do it properly. So, really, I find the whole episode a bit justifiable and really disturbing, from beginning to end.
Psych is pretty amusing, but less so now I'm on the ward and off CL. I miss CL
ahhhh yes. funny, i thought the o&gs wouldve done that. on second thoughts, i think if it involves the bowel they'll fob it off asap. recto-vaginal fistulas scare me.
uhh that's pretty wrong of the consultant hey. i think you've got a good case for not getting busted.
cl is pretty funny and more fun than wards. probably because they're less likely to be medicated in cl.
I don't think there's much difference between a gentle and a vigorous pv/pr for the patient when they're anaesthetised, especially when they're about to have major surgery in that area. But it might make the difference between the doctor feeling something or not...But then again, surgeons aren't exactly famed for their tact.

*Obviously checking someone's pulse is minor, but there are other things with similar invasiveness surely.

(med sounds retarded by the way. If I were going to do a medical degree I'd do vet, it seems like there is less stupidity with ...stuff)
