what's up with the mysterious wooden stick

I see guys at the gym pick up this long wooden stick and do earnest-looking twisty moves like this (but usually standing up).

Often wondered that myself, other than if your arms get tired easily. I never had a goal of really pronounced obliques, myself.

Not sure other than being able to do hundreds of reps without your arms getting tired.

Many it's not for strengthening, but rather to help assess mobility when twisting in each direction. I could see myself using one to see if I could twist equally to both sides without dipping a shoulder down to cheat.

Well, I have seen this done.

It is supposed to work the core and obliques. If women want to work their obliques, many make the mistake of adding weight. That will not help, nor enhance the "hourglass" figure. I was always instructed to use a wooden stick (handle off a broom or shovel) like this. You have to use it faithfully, and it does work.

Just my thoughts....
