Haven't cried in a while..

I hit a prairie dog on the freeway today on my way to a hiking trail with Apple. It ran right into my lane and stopped in the middle of the road. I slowed down to give it time to run out of the way, and I tried not to hit it, but it ran into my back tire. I heard the crunch and looked in my rear view mirror to see it's front half smashed to the ( Read more... )

I've always had a soft spot for animals who get hit because my dad does. He keeps gloves in his car and if no one is around and he sees an animal on the road, he will go move it to the side of the road. So I totally understand where you are coming from. I hope you made it through the experience okay... and just like you, I have no response to dead insects. Ha. I've never thought it to be hypocritical before though. So don't worry, I think many people are like that.

On a side note, that is incredibly exciting that you have a lot of Prairie Dogs around. I love them and have to go to the zoo to see them. (:

That's cool that your dad will move the animals off the side of the road... I hate it when people hit an animals, especially on that was obviously a pet... and then leave it there to get hit again or to be found by the owner. Grrrrr!

Man, I shouldn't have started such a sad topic on my LJ.. hehe.

I would do the same thing. I'm terrified of hitting an animal when I'm driving. I haven't done it yet, but sometime it gets close - like when the birds decide to fly right in front of your car when you're going forty, etc. Dead things in general unsettle me. Not ghosts, just dead bodies. I've always been a devoted lover of animals too, so I don't like seeing them as roadkill.

I don't even slap insects, not even mosquitoes. T_T I just swat them away.

Haha, I do the same thing with mosquitoes.. though oddly enough, they never bother me. One time I went hiking with my dad in the Sequoias and the trail was thick with mosquitoes, and my day was covered with them.. all over his neck and face and hands... and I was seriously untouched. It was super odd. I've always known that they generally avoid me, but that time it was just to a trippy extent. ^_^
