harry potter fic: living on wildfires [marauder era, r]

So, there was a prompt at the Could Have Beens AU Comment Ficathon (which is great fun, you guys should check it out) that read as follows: "Dumbledore/Grindelwald; Ariana doesn't die, Dumbledore sticks with Grindelwald." And what I intended to do was...look at it and then look away, honestly. What I'm actually doing is more or less a re- ( Read more... )

"Think of a thunderstorm," says Diadora. "Or your father during the raid last month, or your friend Sirius' mum when she's in a temper. You can feel it in the air, can't you, Jamie? The magic?"

"Yeah," says James, "'course I can, but--"

"When it hurts," Diadora says, flat. "When it hurts somewhere too deep to feel it properly--that's the brother."

Dear god, that's a *terrifying* verse. Well done, well done indeed.

Oh. This was brilliant. And my favorite bit may be where Tom Riddle is not a villain - I don't know why but I have a weakness for AUs where he was never Voldemort.

Aside from that comment I just had to make first... This is a much darker world and I love how real and bleak it feels. These are children of war, no mistaking it.

Oh wow, this is an amazing 'verse. So interesting! "The Good," wow, that's creepy. It made me think of the Wizard in Wicked, for some reason.

I love the little details in the tantalizing glimpses you've shown here-Snape and Tom in particular intrigued me a great deal. Great job! ♥

I thought of Wicked, too, with that insidious use of "good" to promote fear. Fantastic thematic stuff.

I will follow you into the dark, gyzym, but I am afeard for what you will do with my favorite character (Snape).

(Curious as to why Snape entered /this/ Albus's service, to begin with.)

Otherwise, excited, and a bit anxious, to see to what you are going to do with such famous characters in such a different AU...

Consider my breath bated. ;)

I have all kinds of plans for Snape, never fear! And, if it helps, he's not exactly in this Albus's service; Albus essentially snatched him up and raised him, afraid that if he didn't Snape would go the way of Tom Riddle (naturally powerful child, terrible home situation, automatically inclined to go against any authority). His should be an interesting story, in this :D
