♕ |[65]| Some are plain lucky-- we ourselves among them

I'm always glad to see this, but it's a doubly welcome change from the past week. I didn't really try to leave the City while it was... moving, I suppose you could say, but from everything I read and saw on the Network it didn't seem like the other worlds were any safer than the City ( Read more... )

all's well that ends well, curse [affected], stories of the city, fourth wall destruction, in love with life

[Once he finds himself back in the City, it only seems sensible to go to NeilandTodd's apartment (Justin is too afraid to go back to the one Shilo should be in, just in case she's not).

Knock knock knock.]

[Justin leans back and steeples his fingers nefarious-villain style.]

You and Todd. You're closer than friends.

[It doesn't come off as a question so much as a statement.]

[He's taken aback, sort of, of course; only because this isn't the kind of thing he talks about. Ever. But after his eyes widen, he laughs aloud, not even nervously.]

But you knew that already, didn't you? It's common in vertebrates. That's what you told me, I remember.

I'm not talking about... about the primal, animalistic nature of humans. I meant-- [Justin isn't much of one for New Age-y immaterial garbage, but he's having a difficult time phrasing things without pulling in words he doesn't particularly like.] Spiritually. Like two halves of a single whole.

[Putting it that way-- primal, really?-- makes it sound dirty, and Neil colors slightly. He hasn't run away screaming though, which just goes to show how much he really has grown in the City.] I-- suppose you could say that? It sounds right. [He tilts his head slightly, not quite sure what Justin's getting at.]

[There will be no apologies here when it comes to biology.]

Mm. [He nods and looks as if he just verified something important. It seems that he's not going to share whatever that was.] Good. I don't think either of you will have to be here without the other.

[Neil hesitates, on the cusp of asking, but decides against it. So he just smiles.]

I hope you're right.

I am right. There are some bonds that nothing--not even death and a number of dimensions--can break.

[Justin smiles suddenly.] Will there be a play the next time I'm here?

I wish we could time it that way, it would be really nice. [His small smile breaks into a characteristic grin.] Three months, more or less, and hope we pick the right weekend? If nothing else I wonder if we could get someone to record it. Like a television program, or the way people put things on the Network.

You could get a camcorder. I've seen them in the City. I don't want to miss the play just because I'm in the wrong dimension.

I'll talk to Billy about it, I guess. You know, these things... [He gestures vaguely. Technology, practicality, all that.] It's beyond me. But it's a nice idea.
