I read this in the novel I read at your place: "Isak Dinesan said that she wrote a little every day without hope and without despair." (Grace Notes by Bernard MacLaverty)
I'm trying to apply that to my art-a-day book, too, because I can get so discouraged looking at my stuff on many a day and then I think, "What's the use? I'm no good at drawing nor mixing colors, etc...." But I love to doodle! So I'm trying to do it without judging it nor having the expectation that it will be either wonderful or horrible! (but it's hard)
A lot of the time I make things I don't think are good at all but I do get enjoyment while I'm making them - I think that is the whole point - getting into that "zone" while making the marks. I'm excited for you!
Hang in there, Hazel. Sometimes I dont feel inspired either. My muse is a stubborn thing. Maybe just try doing a still life from something in your house or a view from your window, or copy from a photo or picture in a book. Not that I am any expert. Just that I struggle with inspiration and confidence a lot. Did you look up zentangles online? there are some Youtubes that are instructional. Basically just doodling.
