GET. NEW. STRINGS. Why bother wasting money on a bass that just needs strings when you really need a car? Priorities, man. A new bass won't really help with your music...it's not the instrument that makes you better, it's you.

You must resist the B.A.S. (Bass Acquisition Syndrome)!

1) Get a car
this will get you to and from school and work. This one is a no brainer, although it is difficult to let that p-bass slip from your grasp for a little while...

2) Get new strings
This way you can still play your current bass while you re-save up for that fender dlx p-bass.

3) Get new bass!!!

4) [optional] Get a new amp!!!

I'm going to have to agree with JP and Dan on this one. Worry about your bass later.
