My opinion on the matter: you're right Francesca, his status as the Best Cook remains the same, the other verb is just for classification. The second verb is used only to say among which cooks he's the best. Anyway, thats all from me

i still think you run into the same problem, though, because that STILL suggests that you "experienced" the cook, which just sounds strange. i (hope/think) what you meant to say was "he provided me with the best COOKING i've ever experienced". THAT would make sense.
