I'm currently reading the newest Star Wars novel Millennium Falcon.

Now, granted I did skip a lot of the previous books although I did sit down and read the final few chapters of the book prior to it so I have an idea of who's doing what and where and who's no longer with us.

However...

Having read franchise books before (Tarzan books, all 24 or so original ones) when a character marries and has a family, there's a problem after the first years or so, when everyone says, "Aw, cute!" Then further along in the series, the young ones mature and have their own families, but the emphasis lies on the Original Couple. Burroughs solved his problem by having Korak (Tarzan's son with Jane) flourish in another field, like the military (?) and you didn't read much about him in all the later books. And then there are all the aging problems with an action hero ...
