no, it's spun from the lock. I think you have to wash it first before it's cardable. I've only carded super processed roving, which was perfectly clean and dry and easy to card and spin.
What kind of wool did you try? Sometimes really fine wools are hard to spin for beginners (like me). Maybe you'd have better luck with Corriedale or Romney roving. The fibers really latch together easily and they make nice yarn.

Better than I would have managed.
It's very pretty, it would make a beautiful scarf or sweater, but I imagine that it wouldn't be so much fun to wear because of all the lanolin.
huh. little crocheted sheep toys?

I wouldn't be to sure, you should try spinning if you haven't already.
Little old ladies in Ireland used to spin "in the grease" unwashed wool to make sweaters warmer and water repelant, or so I've been told.
I like the little sheep toy idea.

Little old irish ladies are pretty awesome.

the color is great, and I like the little streaks of black running through. This is just itching to be made into something. If there's enough, maybe a blanket? Then maybe the lanoliny-ness will not matter, if it's not clothing?
