Mexi-sushi? O.o

I was out having sushi last night and I was witness to the creation of the strangest roll I've ever seen: The latino sushi chef took a jalapeño pepper, sliced it in half & removed the seeds. He then filled the halves with cream cheese and spicy tuna. It was deep fried and then put in a sushi roll with crab & cucumbers. Atop the roll was salmon and ( Read more... )

It is now my mission in life to eat that sushi.

There's a sushi place near here (near meaning 70+ miles)I've been to a couple times and a good portion of their rolls have green chili in them. Damn tasty, too.

Like I said to the deej, easy enough to get a sushi chef to make you one. Just ask and ignore the raised eyebrows. :D

That sounds delicious though I would have to get them to forgo the crab. I haven't had sushi in far too long.

There was another funky roll right before it: Two prawns with crab & cucumber in a roll topped with lots of spicy tuna. It's possible the Jalapeño Salmon roll had just the stuffed fried pepper in the middle with no crab/cuke. Easy enough for a sushi chef to make to your specs ... >:).

I have never custom ordered sushi before also do you think Jalapeño is a standard sushi bar item? Either way I think this has too many steps for me to want to sit down and try and explain to a sushi chef.

Still sounds delicious. That other roll you describe here not so much... I can't eat prawns or crabs so that wouldn't go over well with me.

This was at Star Sushi, the conveyor belt place we went to during Porgy. Jalapeños might not be standard, but it can't hurt to ask. I rarely go for anything completely custom, but sometimes have a mutation of something I see there: "Can I have a Spider roll, but put unagi on top too." Still, I think the sushi chef would have fun with the jalapeño roll. I was certainly fascinated watching it.
