A Few Thoughts on Caucuses

1. I must say I am pleased that the more largely funded candidates of Clinton and Romney found themselves in a bit of a pit this evening. While Iowa is only one race, I find the power of persistance refreshing. That said, I am pleased with Edwards in second, and frightened ever so mildly by Huckabee in first ( Read more... )

My dad told me it was Tsunami Tuesday.

I said, "oh, god, no! That's not even alliterative!"

lol at reebchan's comment!

For my own, you know I was watching like a hawk tonight. Listening was more like it, as I only get my news through NPR or online newspapers. Your comments about what the crowds looked like reminded me how strange it is that I'm missing many of the visual clues to this year's elections.

But omg is it going to be an exciting year.

Let that be the worst of our worries. Can you imagine what would've happened had it been Wednesday?

A wild and wacky good time?

Everyone's optimism has me in a crushing state of paranoia. YOU FOOLS! The irony gods will get you and eat us all alive!

Still, tonight was the most excited I have ever been in a long time.

95% white Iowa gave Obama the majority. Maybe not a clear majority, but anyone who says he wont win because hes black can suck it.

Indeed. This may very well shape up to be an interesting election year.

I am pleased with Edwards in second, and frightened ever so mildly by Huckabee in first.

I liken Huckabee's win tonight to Pat Robertson's in '88. He appealed to the dyed-in-the-wool evangelicals who vote the way their Westboro Baptist Churches tell them to, just like Robertson did. It won't be enough to get him the nomination.

I mean, with people like this voting for him, how could he?

"I haven't studied any of the issues and I don't know where Mike Huckabee stands on anything, but he's a Christian, so I know he sees the world as I do."

That was a quote from an Iowa voter interviewed by NPR last week. Weep for the future.

I'm interested to see how it plays out, though, given that Guliani and Paul were nobodies in this race, and in spending a 10 million dollar warchest on Iowa alone how Romney is going to come back from it. That said, Huckabee is a little more eloquent and folksy, a little less vitriolic than Buchanan.

Also, only because it needs to get said again, but congrats on the engagement! Is there a date yet?
