This will be a more productive day than yesterday

Yesterday I: did a couple of loads of laundry, emptied the dishwasher and put a bunch of dirties in it, frogged a sweater, took a 3.5-hour nap, walked the dog, went to dinner with Al at Pizza Heaven, went for a post-dinner drink and dessert at the Tuck Shop, came home and knitted a little bit ( Read more... )

I always thought it would be fun to be a foster home for a dog. Thought it would be hard to give the dog up once it got adopted though. Moot point really because I haven't lived anywhere that would allow dogs for years. Oh and then I heard about people who foster seeing eye dogs. They raise them and socialize them as puppies until they're old enough to start seeing eye dog training. That seemed really cool too.

Fostering isn't *too* bad, and whenever I have to give a dog up for adoption I always try to focus on the positive and how the dog is going to a home that is really excited. But it's also a mixed bag because you never know what you're going to get.

Is there a time limit for how long a foster dog stays with you? Can
you decide that a particular dog is too much for you to care for, even temporarily?

There's generally not a time limit unless something happens and you can't keep the dog and it hasn't been adopted yet, so most of the time people keep a foster until the dog gets adopted. And if the dog is too much, like it doesn't get along with your other dogs or something, they'll find another foster home for it. There's a 6-month-old foster in our rescue right now who needs to find a new home because she's "too puppy" for the one that has her now.
