I'm supposed to be on a break.

mrs_spleen  tagged me for the Daddy Drabbles Challenge. I can't deny her. Plus as soon as I read about the challenge a plot bunny appeared, who I've named Papi because that's all he knows how to say.

“You’re sure?”

“Positive.”

“You’re sure you want to do this?”

“I think it’s a little late to be asking that, don’t you think?”

“Yeah. Shit. We’re not even married.”

“You don’t have to marry me just because you knocked me up.”

“What if I was going to ask you before you told me? I love you Chris. I want to spend the rest of my life with you.”

“I love you, too Al.”

“We have to think of names.”

“I think we have time.”

“I’ve always liked Lincoln for a boy.”

“And if it’s a girl?”

“Trust me. It’s boy.”

“Do you want to hold him?”

“I don’t think that’s a good idea.”

“He’s your son.”

“He’s so small. I’ll drop him.”

“You won’t drop him.”

“I haven’t held a baby since Michael was little.”

“Just do what I’m doing. Here. He’s beautiful isn’t he? He’s got your eyes.”

“He’s got your nose. I hope he gets your brains.”

“And my temper.”

“I promise I’ll be there for him, Lisa. Things are different now, ya know?”

“I know.”

“I don’t want him growing up thinking I don’t love him.”

“Just do like you’ve been doing and everything should be fine.”

“What the…? LINCOLN.” CJ, short for Christina Joanne, is completely oblivious to her mother standing in the doorway of the nursery.

“WHAT?” he yells back from the comfort of his leather recliner a floor away.

“COME HERE!” she yells, her voice louder this time.

“I’M WATCHING THE GAME!” He answers back as if that means anything to her.

“COME. HERE…..PLEASE.” He knows that if she’s saying please he should probably go and see what she wants.

He takes the stairs two at a time to find her standing just in the doorway of the nursery. “What’s the problem?” he asks coming up behind her.

“Look.” She’s pointing at their daughter doing her best to…what? He’s not exactly sure what she’s doing to Charley who doesn’t seem the least bit bothered; he’s asleep. It’s quite funny, whatever it is she’s doing, although Jane doesn’t seem to be laughing.

“I didn’t teach her that if that’s what you’re thinking.”

She turns to look at him, arms crossed. “It’s not funny. Where did she learn it from then? I certainly didn’t teach her to do it.”

He shrugs. “Maybe it’s a genetic thing. Comes natural.”

“Oh great,” she says rolling her eyes before walking over to stop CJ from bumping her head into Charley’s behind.

“Look at it this way,” he says taking CJ from her arms. “If a guy can’t take ‘no’ for an answer, she’ll bust his lip. Ain’t that right CJ?”

Title: If I Had the Chance
Author: happywriter06
Character/Pairing: Michael Scofield or Lincoln Burrows
Category: Gen
Rating: G

Notes: For the Daddy Drabbles Challenge.

If I had the chance, I’d ask you ‘why?’ It’s not like I don’t know but I want to hear it from you. I’d want to hear your truth.

If I had the chance, I’d sit and listen. And wouldn’t judge. And wouldn’t make you feel guilty for your choice, which really wasn’t one at all.

Because now I understand what I never understood before: sacrifices made; promises broken; hearts bruised and bloodied all for good reason. All for some greater good.

If I had the chance, I’d forgive you. Speak the words to you and not a stone grave.
