I don't particularly like the title of this article, "Whatever Happened to LiveJournal?" but I do like the things it has to say. I suppose in a way, those of us who are still here and insist on being here are like the hipsters of the internet. We liked it before it was cool, man. Or maybe we're just the old farts. I know some of you were around ( Read more... )

so much of what Facebook offers is a pay attention to me factor, acknowledge me for merely existing and pursue me please. FB doesn't do anything but leave me cold.

I am here for the long haul which may be the endearing part of my personality.

Yeah, that's one reason I gave it up. The shorter explanation was that I just found it annoying.

When AOL was king...damn, that's an odd memory, isn't it?

ETA: And why the hell DIDN'T Friendster work? I can't remember..I just know I was 'eh' about it at the time.

I never even used Friendster. It's one of those things I see people talking about in the past tense, but I just ignored it at the time. Come to think of it, that may have been around the time that all of the one-upmanship started, new services popping up trying to emulate and surpass what was already there. No idea where MySpace fits into that timeline, though.

AOL was disco. We loved it at the time, but now we're embarrassed to admit it.

I do miss LJ. Also, Blogspot blogging made me realize I want an audience. There's no understated "I just write for myself. I don't care if anyone ever sees this." OMG! I want people to read!

I'm more comfortable with a smaller audience on here. That's probably why my entries tend to be so esoteric.

As for wanting lots of people to read, that's what my book is for. Whenever I finally finish it.
