Almost exactly 32 years ago, I had to get some teeth taken out in preparation for getting braces later in the year. I was eight years old at the time. I don't remember how many Dr. Rafoth extracted, but the one I do remember was the right premolar bicuspid (see here for an illustration). Once it was gone, I could feel that the tooth next to it

Having something in your head and heart for that long, it's completely natural to feel melancholy when you find yourself at the end of a personal, winding road.

Yeah. I think what's got me the most unsettled is that I have no idea how long this next step in the process is going to take, nor exactly how to go about it. I have a pretty good idea on where to start, though.

at my writing group meeting this past Tuesday

we did a tally of how many books have been published by the folks in the group since they started with the group. 84. All self published. There are some folks that before joining the group had gone the route of traditional publishing they are now fully in the camp of indie movement.

That may very well be the route I'm going to go as well. I might try pitching to traditional publishers at first, but these books are so convoluted that they probably aren't something they would consider commercially viable (or worth the risk). Mostly, I just want them out there so people can enjoy them.

Now that it's been several days, I'm finding myself occupied with a new goal, getting the second draft planned out and under control. So things feel different, but not bad.
