Prologue
Not many know about the side of Brooke Davis that wanted to believe in fairy tales - of Prince Charming and happy ever endings. Even her [ex] best friend didn't know that side of her. That side of her kept getting smaller though... she was starting to forget about happy ever endings.
She had thought that she had finally found her Prince Charming in the guise of Lucas Scott.
Ha!
How wrong she ended up being... and now she's in this predicament.
The "predicament" being the fact that she's pregnant and she just told the baby's father that she wasn't - that it was a false alarm.
She told that horrible lie because she just couldn't stand the sight of him, and while it hurt her to lie to him and see the look he gave her. The main reason though? She just couldn't do that to him. Have him tied down to her when he had a future ahead of him unlike she did. He was going to be a basketball star or something great, while she would probably end up doing something she hated thanks to her grades in school.
However, now she had another person to think about, and she wasn't about to flake off this duty.
She may hate Lucas right now, but she wasn't willing to get rid of their baby that they had made together.
Maybe she wouldn't get a happy ending, but as long as her baby was healthy and happy, it would be enough for her.
Chapter 1- Lies and Tears
"I lied." She whispered... tears building up in her eyes as she looked at him. Lucas stared at her in confusion.
"What?"
"I-I'm not pregnant." Brooke stated shaking her head just a tiny bit.
"B-But I saw the test." Lucas stated, shaking his head in confusion.
"I know." Brooke said, trying to hold back the tears she knew that were ready to fall any minute. "But when the doctor called he said I wasn't pregnant. And he said that could happen."
The look on Lucas's face stabbed her heart... the look of shock and what she figured was disgust was clearly visible on his face. The lies she was saying right now were hurting him, she knew that. But she just couldn't do this to him.
"Ok, no no no no, no I-I was standing there when he called." Anger laced every word as he stood up and backed away from the bed a little.
"You just called me a slut," Anger and bitterness laced the last word, but hurt was laced with it as well. She didn't want to be one anymore... and she didn't want him to think her as one.
"So you lied to me?!" He yelled, anger and disbelief, to her. "To punish me?! How could you do that?"
"How could you cheat on me with my BEST friend?" A lone tear finally fell, but she ignored it as she stared at him.
"Brooke..." Lucas whispered, the anger he had felt was slowly dispersing at the look of betrayal and pain of Brooke's face. "I never meant to hurt you."
"That doesn't really matter, Lucas. 'Cause in the end it all hurts just the same," Brooke stated, her voice cracking at the end.
Not knowing what else to say, Lucas stood there for a moment, watching and studying her. He squeezed his eyes shut at the pain he saw in her. He really hadn't meant to hurt her... he liked Brooke, he really did, just not enough to be with her anymore like that. He knew it was his fault that she had lied to him. If he hadn't hurt her, this would never have happened. He couldn't blame this on her.
"I'm sorry," he whispered to her, opening his eyes just as another lone tear fell from Brooke's eye. Brooke just shook her head at him.
"Please leave."

Brooke Davis cried the whole night... since the moment Lucas Scott left her room until early in the morning when she heard her parents wake up to get ready for work. Victoria Davis heard the crying and entered her daughter's room to find her crumbled into a small ball.
"Brooke, what happened? Are you alright?" Victoria asked, uncertain if she should say anything. She and Brooke didn't get along too well, and this was the first time since she was a child that Victoria found Brooke crying in her room. It was then she realized it had been ages since she last spoke to Brooke about anything. Although, truthfully it was her own fault, she hadn't wanted to be a mother and thus she made herself busy with her work so she didn't have to pay any attention to what her daughter did.
"N-Nothing, mom... I'm f-fine." Brooke stated, rubbing her tear-soaked cheeks. She winced at her voice cracking.
"You're crying, Brooke, obviously it isn't nothing. Now what is it?" Victoria demanded, her voice slightly forceful with a hint of concern. She wasn't going to ignore this. She sat down beside Brooke on her bed.
Brooke stared at her mother in surprise... Did I actually hear concern in her voice? Is the world ending or what? Brooke shook her head to get rid of those thoughts. She might as well tell her mom... she would need to know eventually.
"I-I'm p-pregnant." Brooke whispered, facing away from her mom. She didn't want to see the look of disappointment or disgust in her mother's reaction.
Victoria should have figured this would happen... knowing her luck and Brooke's series of flirtations with all the boys in town. Yes, she knew about them, knew Brooke rarely saw the same man again. However she stupidly thought that Brooke knew better then to get knocked up. Disgust and anger raged as she stared at her daughter. Why do you always mess stuff up? Damn it! I had plans for you! The screams went unvoiced however since they wouldn't make any difference to Brooke.
"You're keeping it." Victoria stated, although she hadn't given much thought about it, but as soon as she said it, she knew Brooke was. There would have been no way in hell Brooke would ever say something like this to her without knowing that she would be keeping the thing.
"Yes." Brooke answered, even though she knew her mother already had figured that.
"You can't possibly think that I'm going to allow you to stay here, pregnant at fifteen--"
"I'm seventeen, mother!" Brooke interrupted angrily, glaring at her mother.
Victoria rolled her eyes, "Like that's any better?! Either way, darling," the endearment held nothing to it - it was backed with hatred and anger, "You won't embarrass me or your father here. You either get rid of that thing or your leaving Tree Hill."
Brooke stared at her mother in shock... she knew her mother was selfish, but was she really this selfish? She couldn't even show any compassion towards her only child in their time of need? Instead of compassion Victoria Davis gave out options... and Brooke couldn't stand that any longer.
"You know what, mother," Hatred burned behind each word she spoke, "I am keeping the baby and I'm just fine with leaving Tree Hill." It wasn't as if she had friends here anymore... they either took Peyton and Lucas's side or bitched about her.
Victoria glared at her daughter before standing up. "You're going to regret that, Brooke."
"Yeah, because living here with you has worked out so well for me?" Brooke retorted, causing her mother to huff in anger.
"I'll make arrangements for you right away. No need to keep you here much longer since you seem so eager to leave." Victoria stated before leaving Brooke's room, but not without slamming the door behind her.
New tears started to well up in her eyes, but this time they were of anger and not of sadness.
"Yeah, love you too, bitch." Brooke stated to her empty bedroom. Empty... yeah like that wasn't ironic - she tried so hard to keep her life from feeling empty and in only a matter of weeks everything went to hell.
***
"You know I don't ask you for anything, but damn it please do this for me." Victoria's voice drifted into the kitchen where Brooke was making breakfast for herself. She stopped her movements to pay attention to what her mother was saying. "She can't stay here, Bobby, I refuse to house her."
Bobby? Brooke thought to herself, Uncle Bobby? Hope filled her thoughts as she realized that her mother was talking to her favorite uncle about living with him. He was the only member of her family she liked to spend time with - who didn't judge her for the mistakes she did or the only one besides her that didn't care about money unlike her parents do.
"- Richard agrees with me and Brooke doesn't want to stay here anyway. Why can't you take her in?" Brooke frowned in disappointment - Bobby didn't want her around any more than her parents did or any of her friends. "You're all alone out there, you need someone to take care of you. It'll cause her to grow up and realize she's doing a stupid thing throwing her life away for this - this thing!"
Pain and anger tore at Brooke as she listened to her mother. She glanced down at her stomach, tears welling up in her eyes, as she held her stomach. I won't give you up, I promise you baby. Brooke silently promised before she heard the huffs of anger her mother did in the other room. She usually did that when someone was yelling at her and Brooke briefly wondered what her uncle was shouting at her. A small smile appeared on her face as she thought of all the insults and curses that she knew Bobby was capable of saying, and often he did when speaking to and about her mother.
"Thank you," Victoria huffed finally after a few minutes of silence, her voice clearly stated otherwise. "She'll be on the earliest plane on Saturday to South Dakota."
Brooke stared at the doorway in disbelief... wasn't her uncle just a few minutes ago refusing to take her in? What had changed his mind? Then excitement started to settle in her stomach as she realized she wouldn't have to spend anymore time here in Tree Hill except two days. Two days to say good-bye forever to the little town of Tree Hill.
She had never in all her life, loved anyone more than her Uncle Bobby at that moment.
Chapter 2 - Good-byes & Hellos
Friday was her last day at school and her last cheerleader meeting. Her last day wasn't too bad, her teachers wished her luck and said they would miss her (she doubted most of them however, but she appreciated the thought) and several students wished her good luck - said Tree Hill wouldn't be the same without Brooke Davis (which could be true, Brooke thought to herself). Most of her friends that were still friendly towards her told her that they would miss her, but she could see clearly that they were glad she was leaving - they wouldn't have to worry about the possibility of her sleeping with their boyfriends or crushes (which she had never done... except that one time with Nathan but that was TOP secret, and besides he and Peyton weren't dating then). The other cheerleaders tried to suck up to her so she would pick them as the new head cheerleader, not that was working - she already knew who wanted it to be.
"Are you leaving because of me?" Lucas asked, when he finally managed to block Brooke when she escaped from Peyton. "Or because of Peyton?"
"News flash, Broody," Brooke started, glaring up at him, "Not everything in my life or in this world revolves around you and Blondie. Get over yourself. Now move out of my way... I have a new head cheerleader waiting to be made known."
"Are you coming back?" Lucas asked, ignoring her anger and demand. Brooke rolled her eyes at his face which was filled with sadness and concern.
"If everything goes well? No, I don't ever plan on ever coming back." Brooke stated, crossing her arms.
"Why are you leaving?"
"I'm leaving because I want to, I'm sick of this town and everyone in it."
"You won't miss anyone?" Lucas asked, eyebrows furrowing in confusion.
"Hmm... yeah sure I'm going to totally miss my backstabbing ex best friend and my cheating ex boyfriend? Yeah right. I won't miss anyone, thank you very much."
"I will miss you, Cheery... and I just want to say I'm sorry again." Lucas stated, putting a hand on her shoulder to show he was being sincere. Brooke shrugged it off of her and rolled her eyes.
"Yes, you've said that before... and I don't care. Now please move."
Lucas let out a disappointed sigh before moving out of Brooke's way. Brooke walked swiftly into the gymnasium and towards the rest of the cheerleaders. Peyton sat on the bench in her cheerleader outfit sketching in her sketch book. The others all looked anxious, clearly believing they all had an equal shot at being head cheerleader since Brooke no longer was best friends with Peyton. Little did they know that despite the fact that the two were no longer friends, Peyton was still the best choice out of all the cheerleaders.
"Good afternoon, girls... and I'll get right on topic since I still need to finish packing. This meeting was called so that I may pass the torch or as it is, the head cheerleader duties, onto who would take my place." Brooke started, the attention of all the girls including Peyton was on her. She smiled at them. "I choose Peyton Sawyer to be the new head cheerleader."
Several cheerleaders gasped in shock while the others clapped and excitedly congratulated Peyton. Meanwhile Peyton gaped up at her in complete shock.
"What?" Peyton said, the only thing that she could manage to say.
"While we're no longer friends, Sawyer, I do recognize your the next best cheerleader we have and I won't be selfish and not choose you just because of the recent happenings." Brooke stated firmly, she glanced over at the others. "Now, I better go... maybe I'll come visit one of your competitions - but for now, Ciao."
All of them moved to hug her at one time, except for Peyton who held back the urge knowing that even though Brooke made her head cheerleader, she still hadn't forgiven her. Peyton's heart ached at the sight of her best friend leaving, and they couldn't even fix their friendship before she left. The last thing Peyton wanted was Brooke to leave Tree Hill, and knew she was somehow responsible for Brooke leaving - she had to be. She couldn't think of any other reason.

Karen Roe, after leaving Lucas in charge of the cafe so she could have a break, grabbed the mail from the slot and walked to the kitchen while reading through it. There were a few bills and some junk mail, but what caught the attention of Karen was the unmarked sealed letter that held nothing but her name. Curious as to see who and what it was about, Karen tore open the seal after setting the other mail on the counter.
Dear Karen,
I know you probably hate me by now... for scaring you about the pregnancy that I'm sure Lucas has told you about. I'm really sorry about that... and I didn't want to leave town with you hating me, but I know after this letter you still will. Especially after I tell you something that you don't want to hear.
Although I'd prefer you to never speak to Lucas about this, but if you do, I can understand - I know you two are very close and I don't want to hurt that. However, I'm hoping you won't... at least not until I'm ready for him to find out.
I am pregnant. I lied to Lucas... I really am pregnant and it is his - I wasn't with anyone else when I was with him and I hadn't been with anyone since.
See? Told you you'd probably hate me... I lied to Lucas though to protect him. He shouldn't have to worry about me or a baby at this age. Unlike me, he has options to go places with basketball or any other career he might want to do. He's smart (for the most part) - you raised a good man, Karen, and I love you for that. And I know he told me that he would be there for me and for whatever decision I decide, but I couldn't hold him back. I know he doesn't want to be Dan... but the thing is he isn't Dan, I know that even if I'm still bitter about what he did with Peyton behind my back. So I lied to him and said that I wasn't pregnant... and I'm not sorry I did. I don't want to lock him into a relationship with me just because of this baby - I know he likes Peyton a lot more than he does me or he wouldn't have ever done anything with her while with me.
Sorry for rambling, I just needed to explain myself. I am willing to keep you updated with everything dealing with the baby, which I'm planning to keep despite my parents' chagrin - it’s why I'm moving away to live with my uncle. Don't worry about me because despite my parents hostility about me keeping the baby, their willing to help me financially if I need it - which is a feat in itself. Anyway, enclosed will be my new address and my cell phone number which I hope you will keep disclosed for your eyes only, so if you wish for me to keep you updated about the baby, just send a letter or leave a voice mail. If not, you don't have to do anything and I won't send you anything. I promise.
I hope you can understand why I'm doing this and I think you can... your son deserves to be happy and clearly I'm not someone that would be good for that. I'll always love him, though, even if he did hurt me in the worst way possible.
Sincerely,
Brooke P. Davis
Karen stared at the letter in shock for several long minutes. She wasn't sure of what to do. She knew she should tell Lucas, that would be the right thing to do, but that was clearly the last thing Brooke wanted. And she did understand everything Brooke wrote in her letter, and although she wished Brooke wasn't pregnant - she wouldn't wish that on anyone that age - she couldn't help but respect Brooke's courage to do it on her own.
Karen winced as she realized history was repeating itself, if only slightly different.
Breathing deeply she grabbed the kitchen telephone and called Brooke's cell phone, which went straight to voice mail. Even if she didn't tell Lucas about Brooke's condition, she would have regretted never knowing about her grandchild...
***
Tears welled up in her eyes as she heard the message Karen left on her cell phone. Brooke had figured that she probably wouldn't hear back from Karen - that she would be so angry or not so soon anyway, and that she promised to not tell Lucas was a miracle, at least Brooke considered it to be one.
"Ready?" Richard asked, standing with his arms crossed. He was still disappointed in Brooke, but he could sort of understand her wanting to keep the child. However he wasn't exactly proud of the fact that Brooke was giving up the future he and his wife had planned for her for it.
Brooke nodded and grabbed her purse from the bed. Everything else that belonged to her that she was taking with her was already packed in the car. In less then four hours she would be on a plane to South Dakota.
***
Sioux Falls, South Dakota was beautiful, and was a lot like Tree Hill with how small it was. However, as Brooke watched the scenery as she and her uncle drove to his home she knew it was much more beautiful then Tree Hill. And the moment she stepped into her Uncle Bobby's car she felt more warmth, loved, peace and protected more than Brooke ever had felt before.
"Do you need to buy anything before we get to the Yard?" Bobby Singer asked, glancing over to his niece. He wasn't too sure how to act around her at the moment... could still hardly believe little Brooke could get into this much trouble. He knew he shouldn't have taken her in... not with his job as a supernatural hunter and the Salvage Yard was no place to have a baby. However the hostility he could hear in his sister in the phone call about how Brooke was keeping the baby, he just couldn't stand by and let Brooke have no one. He had no doubts that if he had said no, she would be off in another city by herself as "punishment". That would be worse then living at the Yard, he knew and he wouldn't let Victoria do that to Brooke. Bobby just hoped that his supernatural hunter jobs wouldn't attract her notice or bring her into it. She didn't deserve it, and he didn't want to bring her baby into any more danger.
"No, I have everything I need, thanks though," Brooke stated, smiling at him. "I really am thankful for this, Uncle Bobby... you have no idea how much I appreciate this."
"I have an idea, Brooke... and your welcome. I'm just sorry it’s not up to your usual standards. I know you probably wouldn't have wanted to live here with me." Bobby stated, looking back at the road.
"That's not true, I would rather much have lived with you, you have no idea how much this means to me," Brooke stated reassuringly. "And I promise I'll help out around the house and do anything you need of me."
"Well... do you know how to cook?" Bobby asked, causing Brooke to laugh.
"Not so much, sorry," Brooke stated causing Bobby to let out a bark of a laugh.
"Figures... finally got a woman in the house in over fifteen years and she can't cook."
Brooke let out a soft laugh, a little sad at the mention of her uncle's late wife. She had died when Brooke was just one, so she didn't remember her at all, but from the stories Bobby told her, she knew she would have loved her aunt. A random thought popped into her mind, making her wonder if her aunt would have done the same thing as her parents did or would she have been like Bobby - taking her in? She hoped it would have been the latter.
***
"Well, this is it... home sweet home." Bobby stated gesturing backwards to the rest of the room. Brooke studied the room as she entered it, and found while it was clear he had tried to clean up, the room was still messy. There were books everywhere, along with dust, and a few nicknacks scattered on the shelves and table. The room definitely looked to be lived in, and there was barely any hint of anything female touch. Brooke grinned, knowing that would change as soon as she got unpacked. It was also a little too dark for her liking, but she'd definitely put that on her list of things to change.
"It's great, Uncle Bobby," Brooke stated as she faced her uncle, "I really love it."
Bobby grinned, clearly proud. "Thanks, your room will be upstairs - the second door to the right. Bathroom is the straight down the hall from it - can't miss it."
Brooke smiled, grabbing two of her suitcases to carry upstairs. The old stairs creaked a few times as she walked up the steps. She found her room easily, and found that it was a little dusty despite her uncle's attempt to clean the room up, but Brooke loved the room anyway. It was a pretty large room, with enough room for a closet that took up one side of a wall and a queen sized bed on the opposite side with two night tables beside each side on it with a book shelf on the left side and a drawer on the right side. There was a window seat, something that she always wanted to have. Beside it on the same wall as the closet was another drawer, this one smaller then the other one and a computer desk beside it right against the the closet.
Brooke dropped the suitcases she had in her hand before going towards the bed. It looked brand new and as she sat down on it she found it was really soft. She laid back on the bed to relax for a minute before she would have to go back downstairs to get the rest of her stuff. As she took a deep breath, she realized that this was it.
Her life would be completely different from now on.
Brooke just hoped that it would be for the better, as she pulled herself off the bed and over to her window and opened it so that the room could get some fresh air. When she looked out of the window, she found it overlooked the Salvage Yard and while it wasn't the most beautiful scenes, she didn't mind it.
"It's not much, I know, but well - it was short notice." Bobby stated, almost startling Brooke. Brooke smiled as she turned around to face him.
"It's fine, and I'm sorry about that."
"No, it's fine. I'm glad your staying," Bobby said, knowing he meant it. He really did love his niece, and he wanted to watch over her - she needed somebody to lean on. And if he could be that person, he would... He just hoped the things he hunts doesn't find out about her. That's the last thing he wanted to happen to her.
"I am too, I know I'm going to love it here." Brooke stated, before hugging her uncle. Bobby glanced down at her in shock before returning her hug - it had been quite a long time since the last time he and her hugged like that, which reminded him that she wasn't a little girl anymore.
