Tonight, the entertainment at my conference was Casino Night. I went in fairly early, managed to avoid sitting through a product demo to get my chips, and then settled down at a blackjack table, noodling around with the smallest denomination chips, as is my wont, regardless of whether the chips are worth real money. I know the theory of counting

Drunk and annoying conference-goers is no good. But yeah, drunk and annoying conference-runners is seriously wrong. I should certainly not aspire to be as annoying as my clients! :)

(Were there places to keep your drink at the tables? I can see that being a design failure of a casino/bar operation as well.)

They did in fact have little drink holders, but they were too small to hold the glasses that were being handed out at the cash bar. I plan to include this in my troubleshooting analysis. :)

there is a certain look that i practice and reserve for just these occasions. i take pride in getting sloshed nerds to flee my presence when i use it. of course i have the huge advantage of being female in a male dominated field, and what you describe is the sort of situation where i am apt to use that.
