OOH! I haven't a nail LEFT! Supurbe chapter; full of tension, excitement, fear and anger!!! ANGER !!! Poor Owens. Please not Owens.. he's come so far. I applaud you that given Owens' history there and to have survived it, only to return and find his future uncertain. Really stroke of brilliance, though, may I plead... NOT OWENS!
I LOVED your description of Jack in all his piratical glory. Felt my own heart flutter in time with Lucia's at that. Your flare for detail is amazing and you've got such a patient muse, determined for us to see and know everything there is to know about each character. You draw them out so richly on a very colorful canvas. Bravo!
I do look forward to more, but next time, I think I'll be winding some hemp into a necklace. I find that keeps me from biting my nails during tense reading *w*
Sorry about the nails! Poor Owens has had a time of it this round, hasn't he? Writing the next chapter now, so you won't have to bite your nails for long.
Jack!description is always great fun to write and read (at least for me!), and I figured Lucia and Juana would be most impressed by his sudden appearance in piratical mode.
Thank you so much for the wonderful reviews, both here and at BP Sails. I'm glad you liked it enough to comment at both!
Absolutely adore amendments. You are such a good, thorough writer; I wish I had the discipline to revise so well. The little hint that it might be only a shoulder wound, or might've hit the lung - excellent piece of tension. You rock! :)
It does read better for the revisions, and originally I had planned to end the scene on the ship, with Owens' life very much in the balance. It's just one of the elements that will help wind up the story of the Chalice.
Thank you, as always, for your valuable input. As we've said before, when one is so close to the words it's hard to see the story. You, and my other kind beta readers, give me great perspective, and it's always interesting that you each come up with different things that could be improved. Writing is a fascinating process. I enjoyed dabbling at it when I was younger, but I never knew the fun of combining the many aspects into a completed piece. It's the best hobby there is, along with reading!

Oh, yes. I figure we'd ALL like to be Harry. The ultimate Mary Sue? (Complete with black eye.) ;)
Glad you liked the chapter!

OOooh! Thanks for the lovely description of Jack back in pirate regalia. Gave me a nice little thrill for the evening.
Oh no! I knew things were going too well. Oh, poor Owens. You terrible author you, hurting your poor character like that. I'm getting all emotional.
All jests aside. That's a very moving ending, mate.
