So, we've had our opportunities to squee and to rec stuff. How about revisiting some of those terrific talks we used to have as to why H/Hr spoke to us so strongly and what we saw in the text and/or the movies that showed us why it would be such a perfect pairing ( Read more... )

Do you remember the point in reading or viewing when you seized on the idea of Harry and Hermione as a couple?

Not precisely; my entrance into the fandom was so long ago, like, ten years, wow OMG ( ... )

What other evidence led you from thinking they would make a good couple to shipping them? Or perhaps to OMG! OTP FOREVER! status?

It's the sheer *preponderance* of 'evidence' - or, rather, *material* - which makes H/Hr so superior ( ... )

What were some of the things outside of HP itself that may have influenced your vision of H/Hr?

How hard was it when the 2005 Leaky Cauldron interview came out? How much did it affect your fandom activities afterwards?

Rowling's interviews, even the Interview o' Doom, have never perturbed me in the slightest.

That's because - unlike many other H/Hr fans, perhaps - I have very little respect for Rowling. With the last two books she showed that she was a bad was only an adequate author. She had no idea where she was going for the conclusion of her series (other than having a few key scenes in mind). She was, frankly, incompetent in much of what she wrote in those last books. With her interviews she showed that she'd forgotten what she'd already written ( ... )

It was... tough.

I was really into all the discussions back then, on FictionAlley/SCUSA. The delusional word was everywhere. Websites got a bit more divisive, the vitriol between ships got a bit nastier and everything just.. ugh.

I don't think I meant it to mean that much to me, but it was the beginning of the end of my involvement with fandom. Not consciously, of course, but it still affected me a lot.

The general entertainment media, before and after the Interview of Doom, certainly seemed to focus a great deal on Harry and Hermione, to the point that some later casual readers/viewers were quite surprised at the canon pairings once they finished. Can you think of some examples that warmed your shipper heart?

The movies have been wonderful in how they've supported criticism of Rowling's canon. The celluloid canon corrections just kept growing larger and larger with each successive film. Truly marvellous. Almost the entirety of canon's H/G - chucked out. The farce of the final showdown between Harry and Voldemort, which read as so melodramatically ridiculous on the page - completely eradicated. And so forth. Vindication in glorious 3D technicolour ( ... )
