So, we've had our opportunities to squee and to rec stuff. How about revisiting some of those terrific talks we used to have as to why H/Hr spoke to us so strongly and what we saw in the text and/or the movies that showed us why it would be such a perfect pairing ( Read more... )

And just how much did you enjoy the schadenfreude when Rowling's interview with Emma Watson came out in February and she confirmed that yeah, it would have made a better story if she'd gone with Harry and Hermione?

The interview itself meant little to me - it was only Rowling, whose words carry little direct importance with me - but witnessing the fandom reaction was great fun. A complete turnaround by the author!god of so many of the canon faithful which left them 100% defensive and not knowing what to think. Or what they were being told to think.

Yeah, there was some schadenfreude there. :-) Depending on the calibre and character of the OBHWF fan I saw anything from admittance that their god had betrayed them to confusion over what their Jo was telling them to think to "we know better than Jo" to "well, R/Hr might now no longer be any good but at least I saw it way back in book 4" (the last being a miserable attempt to claw back some self-respect from the ashes). All fun stuff to see.

Plus I also enjoyed the rejoicing in H/Hr circles. :-)

I felt vindication more than schadenfreude.

For me the Leaky Cauldron interview was the beginning of the end of my involvement in fandom. So it's fitting that the new interview was what spurred me to start reading fanfiction again - not because it made really that big of a difference, but it really reminded me of how big this used to be in my life and I wanted to feel that again!

How does your experience shipping H/Hr affect your viewpoints with other fandoms? Do you tend to look for the brainy one paired with the smart one? Have you gotten interested in a book/series/show because a couple remind you of H/Hr?

I currently follow Castle and I definitely appreciate the brainy female paired with the swanky main male lead. However, compatibility is so very important.
