I probably should have noticed this sooner but where the heck did all the animals go from this place, anyway? Not that Manhattan's ever been a place full of wildlife, but you'd think there'd be birds or dogs or cats running around or flying in the case of birds or something.

Somehow this strikes me weirder than a giant monster stomping around

Yeah, I've noticed a few peculiar things such as that myself... such as whatever became of the sprpeople who used to live here. In any case, I would've at least expected a cockroach or two. Those things are able to survive nuclear explosions; I'm sure this is no different.
