So, I took care of the car. I just traded it back in for another. Red Cross has insurance for that sort of thing, apparently. My computer is still not working. Gateway's customer service is very friendly and gives quick response. Unfortunately they charge $180 for out of warranty repairs. Alas. I am waiting for the computer box they're ( Read more... )

To tell you the truth, every Gateway I've known has had many random hardware failures. My father's Gateway has had the hard drive, graphics card, and cd burner break down on him... there's a reason they sell more tv's than computers.

It's interesting. Lately, I've heard from a lot of Gateway users that they're fed up and will try Dell next time. I've also heard from a lot of Dell users who are fed up and say that they will try Gateway next time.

I wonder of Gateway and Dell have come up with some deal (modeled after American politics, perhaps?) to bounce customers back and forth between thoem, by convincing everyone that only those two choices exist.

I don't really wonder at that. It's pretty clear that they all want you to believe that there are three choices: Gateway, Dell, and HP. Incidentally, I had heard some good things about Dell, who do you think makes the most reliable casual-user computers?
