Sometimes I hate my job.

OK, so I give 125 percent on a daily basis in terms of planning appropriate lessons, and trying to foster a safe learning environment.  The mornings start out with my remedial reading class, 2 hours in length (!).  These kids for the most part, don't give a shite about learning to read.  They want to flirt. They want to argue.  They want to look ( Read more... )

Being a teacher is the most exhilirating thing, at times. It can be incredible. Other times it can bring you the most ruinous, unpleasant days you've ever had. Let's trade places ;)

A grotesque time-warp follows here, but I wish I were in your class. I would learn so much. If I were, I would probably be one of the flirts (the curly-haired boy girl in the next row?) rather than one of the hell-raisers. Though in truth I was a pain-in-the-ass in junior high and got bad grades in deportment. I morphed into Goody Twoshoes in high school. Hang in there. I know for a fact that you have so much to offer. I remain, however, an unrepentant retiree and do not miss the travails of teaching, only the numerous joys.

Wow. Mille grazie, signore. How have you been? I read your posts with relish (and mustard) and have really great memories of being in your classes. I think you know that you are partially responsible for my vocation, such as it is.

I am doing well, despite my petulant whining. Things are going ok, but working in the ghetto kills your soul some days. Last year I had the 6th grade gifted kids and they hung on every word. Sometimes nowadays, it's like I'm not even in the room.

hey stranger! How the hell have you been?

For some reason when I was in school, even though I always, always excelled in English, year after year someone would fuck up and put me in the lowest level english class and it was always an easy A but reading this entry brought back a flood of memories about how aggrivating it was to be in a class with those kind of kids.

How have YOU been? I am doing well. School takes up most of my time. It's not a 9-5, it's more like an 8 am)-11(pm). I read your posts and I know I never respond, but lurking is in my nature. What's new with you?
