Thought i'd share my own sort of house blessing ritual,
I am closer to being wicca than any thing, though i do dabble in darker things so now and then i need to house clean if you know what i mean. lj cut for space.

That's an interesting cleansing rite! I have one I created based on my own faith that works pretty well. It has a lot of basis in the kind of rite you've described here (salt water, symbols, verbal declarations of what's allowed and what isn't, incense, etc), but I invoke the "powers" of my own pantheon for a little extra oomph. Don't make much noise, though; I do recognize the purpose of it, just never thought to use it in my own. I figure invoking Death and other such beings tends to be enough. XD

Noise,,,ya i'm to introverted to like the noise much myself, but there are those that believe bells and chimes ward off spirits so i tried to incorporate that for the girl it was written to. :)

I think I avoid clanging bells because of the superstition they ward off faeries and I definitely allow them into my home. I also permit transient and nonmalignant spirits to come through. I couldn't imagine living in a completely spiritless place after growing up around them. My roommate commented on the strange things going on ever since I moved in, hehe. But I digress.

Love this! I'm a "pagan" and I actually have been on the hunt for a cleansing ritual. My house is abounding with negativity and gross energy. I've tried a few things. It's such a long process because my house is so cluttered and dirty. It's exhausting.
My friend suggested putting on lyric-less music. And dressing up "special" to make it more of a ritual, so I wear this pretty Grecian looking white dress. I also suggest meditating a little bit before, to clear your head of bullshit....I personally tend to panic when I'm cleaning.

I also put a little bit of salt in a water bottle and spray it in the air. But you have to go back and clean after it because it'll leave white ish grains on everything.
