More mayhem from the self-important administrator

May 09, 2009 08:13

At 7:00 on Friday morning, the self-important administrator declared an assembly for 10th and 11th graders at 10:00. She sent out URGENT! email. I could see justifying a sudden assembly for something urgent. Like, "we're closing for a week because of swine flu", or "five people got shot yesterday and we need to come together as a school." So on top of all the other idiocy - she's berating students for NOT buying tickets at ALL? Is prom mandatory now or what??

And apparently she doesn't realize that she works in an inner city school where prom tickets are probably not the first thing on the list for economically strapped families.

She also made an odd pitch for the $25 photograph package, billing it as not too expensive and a good variety of pictures. I'm wondering if she has some kickback arrangement with the photographer.

Well, the wording was something like, "Okay, for those who aren't buying tickets....why not? What's the problem?" She probably didn't mean it to be berating, but it came across more like a demand.

Assorted answers, like "I don't have a ride", or "It costs too much", or "nobody I know is going." Entirely predictable from inner-city 10th and 11th graders.

THis woman is nuts. Pure and simple. It's adult-onset something, and it's going to get worse. In five years she'll be a model for some weird character in a James Thurber short story.

A particularly pernicious rumor is that, if she can't find a job as an administrator in another school, she's going to bump one of the "provisional" teachers at this school and reinvent herself as a humanities teacher.

I don't know if she can technically do it as far as union rules are concern, but I could certainly imagine her doing it.
