Lawn = mowed.

We decided that $25 a week to get the lawn mowed was ridiculous, given that our yard only takes 10 minutes to mow and lawn mowers like this cost less than $400. So we bought that mower and I just mowed our lawn at our house for the first time. Maybe I'm a dork, but it was pretty cool ( Read more... )

$25 a week is definitely ridiculous, especially if it takes only 10 freaking minutes. My parents are getting a much better deal. They are paying $70 a month to have their lawn taken care of, which includes weekly mowing, edging, minor maintenance of their flowerbeds, fertilizing as necessary, and trimming the vines on their block walls as necessary. This typically takes a team of 3 (most likely illegal immigrants judging by the price-to-work-done ratio) Mexican guys about 30-45 minutes each time if they aren't fertilizing, and they definitely don't waste time doing it, and they always do a very good job. Basically, they end up earning on the order of $10/hour each for the time they spend taking care of my parents' yard. Furthermore, they clean up all the yard waste produced, leaving my parents' lawn looking quite nice and clean.

Pesto! Woo-hoo!

Just curious, are you making it the way I did in Tulsa, or do you have another method you would be willing to share with me? I am always open to new recipes.

Pretty similar, actually.
For a pound of pasta I basically do:
1/4 cup olive oil + one package of basil in the blender
then add another 1/4 cup olive oil, some garlic, and 1/4 cup grated romano/parmesan and blend some more

It's pretty easy and tastes pretty good, too.

How much is in a package of basil? We have some growing outside so I'm gonna use fresh. I'm way too precise when I do things, I suppose, but how much garlic? And do you ever put in pignoli nuts?

PS - That first mow felt good, right? It'll probably get annoying after awhile, but revel in that first cut. Woo!

2/3 of an oz I think.

Garlic and pignolis I usually just throw in depending on how I feel.
