The first portrait to appear on U.S. money was Lincoln's portrait on the penny to honor his 100th birthday. 50 years later, they added the Lincoln memorial on the back. Though I don't know precisely who you are (though I have an idea), I wholeheartedly agree.

I don't they call it that anymore. *sigh*

And to DL!!: I approve of all that is Lincoln related. The penny's needed a facelift, and I'm glad it's for a real cause, not because some HBO movie came out about him (see: John Adams $1 coin)

I totally still call it the nipple of knowledge. But then, I'm a Take Five and have no idea what the young'uns say these days.

On topic: I disapprove because it is more money wasted on trying to make the coins look "interesting," which encourages people to keep the money tucked away in some collecting book rather than spending it. (The influence of pennies is pretty negligible, but if I'm going to complain about this I'm going to do it across the board.)
