I survived my first day of teaching. Yesterday was a full day of meetings and classroom preparations. I can't believe they only really gave us 3 hours to prep our rooms. I've spent the last two days cleaning my classroom and back storage areas. As the biology teacher, I get a life room (where I'm suppose to keep fish, gerbils, etc) and a back workroom (a giant storage room/office for the bio, chem and Ag Science teachers). I spent the day at the Ann Arbor Street Fair with my cousin. She just finished her master's degree in oceanography at U of M and is about to move to Maryland to start her PhD. Apparently without my knowledge I have achieve the impossible for lifeguards. Last week I apparently was over 40 hours and have earned overtime pay. Now because the city, a union of government officials as I like to call them, will not allow ANYONE, especially a lifeguard with less than 6 months seniority, get overtime, I must stay under a set ( Read more... )
