Self, do not turn TV on before 11 am on weekdays. I have no clue what demographics are watching at this time, but the shows on between 9 and 10 are NOT for you (i.e., me ( Read more... )

I watched Maury on the flight to San Francisco (I think on the way to Calgary since I changed planes there). WestJet now has satellite TV, which is cool, except the person in front of me reclined her seat - why do they even allow this as it isn't significant enough to make the person comfortable & is just enough to make the person behind uncomfortable. The new leather seats are a nice touch though. Anyway, I digress. I was surprised at this Maury show - it's so exploitive but so exploitive that I have to ask two questions ( ... )

I tend to catch a bit of Maury more often these days AND it appears that EVERY show is about paternity testing. Only once have I seen a bit of a show that didn't seem to be about paternity testing - this week he seemed to be doing makeovers for hairy men (biker guys with long hair, I think). I'm not positive, though, since I was just flipping.

Judge Judy IS good, but I never watch it these days because it's on when things I'd prefer to get braindead to are on. I saw some of an A&E biography on Judge Judy once and she impresses me as a person.

Divorce Court can actually be not all that bad. I saw one case where the Divorce Court judge took the couple into her chambers where she counselled them to not get divorced. I liked the show a bit more after seeing this because she did quite a good/convincing job of it.

Ha ha! She did that on the episode I saw as well. I didn't like it because I thought the wife agreed because she felt pressured - she was very shy. The husband had cheated on her. I thought the judge should not have interfered with her decision.

I really sympathise with your lack of options. My opinion of television has gone down since we dropped down to about 8 channels. In fact, it's so bad that I'm sceptical that signing up for more channels would help.

Normally, I turn on CBC Radio as soon as I start my day. If I tune in to Calgary, I can catch The Current, which is my favourite show now. This morning, however, it looks like I am right out of luck...
