cala and bell markets (essentially the same store, but with bell markets being cleaner and fancier) are associated with ralphs and have used ralphs brand generic foods for awhile. the ralphs brand spiral macaroni and cheese is good. so i hope that's the case. the bell markets by our apartment appears to be closing (or something like that) right now too.

where is that bell market exactly? is it on the other side of van ness?

Cala reviews on Yelp are uniformly really bad.

I see that Kroger owns Cala and Ralphs. Kroger was big when I lived in northwest suburban houston, texas in the late 80s/early 90s.

It seems to be the opposite over here. The Bell by my apt used to be filled to the brim with Ralph's Brand Quality Products, but they've been just plum disappearing recently. & now everything else is starting to disappear as well. Maybe they just need a new inventory guy, but I suspect closure is afoot!

what?
dont you live in the same apartment?

something really sketchy is going on with Cala but their website doesn't explain it at all.

and on a tangent, I like perusing supermarkets in general... so a good reference is groceteria.net
