What's Blue and White and Red All Over?

Sep 28, 2008 17:18

A meta in 3 parts:

First, an exploration of changes in the use of color in Season 4 so far.  Then a little theorizing about possible color-theme associations.  Thirdly, and lastly, an exploration of other thematic visual elements, integration of visual elements and speculation on their implications.

Warning:  very image heavy post

And... here we go. )

Hee! Thanks starfish. I'd loved how this season started off with such a bang, exploding into new territory both relationship between brothers-wise and mytharc-wise.

I feel so ... lacking in insight. Wow - how do you all come up with this? I'm amazed at the analytical insight you bring. I love reading all this -- it makes everything so "deep"

You bring up things I've never even thought about. But amazes me.
I love the idea that what we saw in the beginning of Lazarus Rising was Dean being pulled out. That's so cool and makes sense when you explain it.

I'm humbled............. continue to teach me

Uhhhh.. How do I come up with this stuff? *mumbles* Many and repeated watches of the episodes?

LOL It's kind of become like a soothing background for me. Have a ton of paperwork to catch up on at work? Strap on the iPod and play the first couple episodes of the season. That ring around the tub looking a bit too permanent and the closet needing a good clearing out? Stack up the DVD's in the player and turn up the volume. *g*

Really, you'll have to blame people like Sadelyrate and Bowtrunckle and Hugemind. They're the ones who got me started on this.

Thanks for the kind words, mtee.

Re: a little more on colors in religious symbolism hearseeno September 30 2008, 23:49:33 UTC
Whoa. That's interesting stuff about the symbolic use of color in iconography. Thanks for passing it along, Borys.

Wow! Your "yellow" caps from S3 demonstrate very nicely how yellow was used last season. And how it's been used in S4. :) And the "white"&"light" caps from this season certainly do raise the question if white is being used to signify angelic power; to me, it fits.

Also, creepy red flowers that look like a hand in the motel room. Motel room that was filled with red. *meep*

*sporfle* What have you put in the background of that icon, Hugemind? LOL! The Boys grinning and strolling away from a scene of nigh-apocalyptic destruction. "Nothing like a job well done, Sammy?" *nudge* *Little brother grin and roll of the eyes at pyromaniac but happy big brother ( ... )

All I can do now when I see the screen flooded with red or yellow is flail around and shouting "Danger Dean (or Sam) Winchester! Danger! Danger!" D'Oh! ::facepalm:::

It's kinda embarrassing :-D

And I am bursting to ask you something but just know that I can't! ::flail:: and ::facepalm:: (and that hurt...ow!)
