It's a shame you didn't like Philip Roth. Some of his earlier stuff is brilliant, "Portnoy's Complaint" especially. I had heard he went downhill, but I was hoping it wasn't true.
Actually, "Portnoy's Complaint" is still on my to-read list; I figured I'd give Roth a second shot, as it seems a goodly amount of people hold that book in high regard. With your recommendation, I'll definitely get to it.
Also, I am loathe to recommend books to you (ever since I recommended a book to you back in middle-school and you really disliked it), but have you read "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?" As I was reading, I thought you might like it.
It was a book called "One Fat Summer." I believe your description of it was that is was "unreadable." :-) I liked it at the time because it spoke to my life experience; you know, kind of like that movie "Precious" did for me last year.

My mother also recommended "Dragon Tattoo" to me. I think I may give it a go, when I find a gap in my reading schedule.
What did you recommend to me in middle school? I don't recall that at all. Maybe I should re-read it...
